Here are five reasons why the win is significant for her and Indian badminton.1.The China Open is triumph is Sindhu’s first title since her historic Silver at the Rio Olympics in August. Before China, Sindhu had lost in the 2nd rounds of the Denmark Open & the French Super Series in October.2.This is also Sindhu’s first ever Super Series Premier event title. There are five Super Series Premier events during the year in England, Malaysia, Indonesia, Denmark & China which could be considered the Grand Slams of World Badminton. Before today Sindhu had lost the 2015 Denmark Open Super Series final.3.Sindhu has also become only the 2nd Indian woman shuttler to win the prestigious China Open Super Series title. Olympic Bronze medallist Saina Nehwal had won the title in 2014 while Kidambi Srikanth became the 1st Indian male badminton player to win this title also in 2014.4.This is the 3rd year in a row when an Indian woman shuttler has featured in the final of the China Open. Saina Nehwal was the losing finalist last year. On a comeback trail from injury Saina crashed out in the 1st round this year.5.With the win Sindhu has also broken her jinx against world No.9 Sun Yu. Sindhu had lost in the last two matches played between the duo. Sindhu & Sun Yu are now tied 3-3 in head to head encounters.
