Record 5 increase in electricity demand

first_imgYesterday’s significant increase in the demand for electricity, an increase of five percent, is what led to the power cuts across multiple localities in Malta. This was confirmed by a spokesperson for Enemalta plc.The spokesperson stated that the demand reached 510MW, the highest rate ever registered by Enemalta. He explained that this was a five percent increase from the last record-breaking number in August 2017, that of 488MW. Moreover, in July’s first few days, a 15 percent increase was registered when compared to 2017 and 2018 numbers. He added that in the past two days, Enemalta clients had been experiencing power cuts due to the recent heatwaves. He sustained that damages were localised and separate. The spokesperson then explained that due to the automated systems in the Enemalta substations, power cuts were resolved relatively quickly. Electrical supply was back on within 10 minutes in 80 percent of the cases. He stressed that despite the power cuts, there were no problems with the electrical generators. Enemalta will continue investing in its distribution systems in order to strengthen its services.Should you experience any difficulties, you may call Enemalta on 80072224.WhatsApp SharePrint last_img read more
