Donegal school ‘bee-lieve’ after reaching environmental awards final

first_imgYoung people from Carndonagh Community School are celebrating being shortlisted for the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards, which will be held in the Round Room of the Mansion House, Dublin, on May 22nd. The group are advancing to the finals with their inventive project ‘Bee Good’, which aims to bring attention to bee-keeping in second level schools.Earlier this year, the group were tasked with coming up with an action project that would make a real contribution to the environment at a local level. Once this was complete, the intrepid young environmentalists had to pitch their big idea to a panel of experts at the Ulster ECO-DEN – a Dragon’s Den style pitch meeting which they passed with flying colours. The impressive project has been shortlisted with 80 others for the finals of the Young Environmentalist Awards. From over 318 project registrations received across Ireland and Northern Ireland, the successful group will now have the honour of showcasing their project at the Young Environmentalist Awards Showcase and Awards ceremony in Dublin, which will see over 650 young environmentalists from all over Ireland come together to highlight their work.Commenting on the Ulster ECO-DEN, ECO-UNESCO Director Elaine Nevin said “It is always so uplifting to see and hear the fantastic work that young people are doing all across the country through the Young Environmentalist Awards programme. “This year we have met young people who speak with such great confidence and passion about the real impact they have had on their natural environment through their action projects. We are very proud of everyone who took part.“We are inviting members of the public through the Peoples’ Choice award to go online to our website, read the inspiring projects, and show your support to these talented young people by voting for your favourite project.”Although the main objective for the finals is to impress the judges and take home a much coveted award, the young people also need your support for the People’s Choice Award. The public have the power to choose the winner of this category and from May 9th-May 20th you can vote online for your favourite project at www.ecounesco.ie.Donegal school ‘bee-lieve’ after reaching environmental awards final was last modified: May 3rd, 2018 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:awardsbeesCarndonagh Community Schoollast_img read more
